It’s really crazy when we think about how far Carrie Wood has come in her career. She started off as just an American Idol contestant and now she is one of the highest-paid country music stars in the industry. She’s rolling in the millions and her songs are always at the top of the charts. She is a country girl who has been winning hearts for years including her athlete husband's heart.
She was recently injured in her home this year, she tumbled down some stairs at home and damaged her face. The incident caused more than a little drama in her life as people are claiming she looks just a little different now. She had to endure up to 50 stitches in her face and a broken wrist. We’ll have to see how she is healing up, but many people say that it changed the musician's beautiful face.
We have always believed Carrie Underwood to be a cool girl that is always a good person as well, but there have certainly been some things that have happened that made us question it as well. Is she as nice as everyone thinks she is or is there something else that is a little bit darker than we weren’t aware of? There may be more to this singer than we realized. Check out these 15 things about Carrie Underwood’s life that make us think it’s not as perfect as it looks.
Her Marriage May Not Be As Rock Solid As We Think
There have been plenty of rumors over the years about Carrie Underwood’s marriage and whether they are on the verge of a breakup. She married Mike Fisher eight years ago and above the surface, everything seems to be okay, but why so many breakup rumors? According to Underwood, their married is nothing short of perfect and there is nothing for anyone to worry about. While rumors were circulating Fisher was fast to stomp on them on social media which made everyone wonder if he reacted just a little too quickly. Fox News reported that Fisher posted this message on his social media channels. “That's not media. We've never been better. Thanks." The site reported, “The Instagram interaction comes after Fisher posted a spiritual photo of a sunset over a lake with a quote from Psalm 139:23-24 which read, "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way of everlasting."
We suppose that is one way to respond to rumors, but we still have our suspicions.
She looks different
In this day and age, we don’t know why any celebrity would lie about plastic surgery. So, many people get it these days that it's hardly a surprise when we hear that a celebrity went under the knife. Plus, in Carrie Underwood’s case, we would totally understand why she would get it done. Her face is part of her brand and she fell down a flight of stairs and required 50 stitches, so it’s kind of understandable that she might get some work done. This photo was taken after the fall and many people are suggesting she got some work done because she doesn’t quite look the same. The photo is of Underwood and a fan who just so happened to be working out in the same area together. She asked for a photo with the singer and many people wondered if she was hiding the side of the face that was injured. She doesn’t look bad in the photo but the fact that Underwood has issued a statement warning fans that she looked “different” is what is raising the questions. “Now here we are 7 weeks later and I’m still healing and not quite looking the same.”
She Has Upset Some Of Her Fans
Carrie Underwood has a strong Christian background as does her husband and so that usually dictates that they have traditional views and values. The same typically goes for the fans of her music. She’s trying to be a good girl in the country music industry, but she’s not always impressing her fans. Last year she performed at an evangelical event and received some backlash for doing so. It all came down to the fact that she supports gay marriage and some believed she should not be performing at Christian events with that viewpoint. The Christian nonprofit organization called American Family Association criticized her performance because they didn’t believe that she should be at the event, to begin with.
The weird part is that Underwood didn’t defend her viewpoint after she was criticized in the media.
She didn’t defend her stance on gay marriages or her general viewpoint on the situation. Radar Online reported, “In an open letter to Atlanta pastor Louie Giglio, who founded the event in 1997, American Family Association's outreach director Wesley Wildmon questioned the country superstar's presence because of Underwood's public stance in support of gay marriage.”
Some People Think She’s Cold-Hearted
It can be hard for any entertainer to be happy and chipper all the time. There are going to be moments when you get cranky especially when you are constantly followed around by photographers or having to sign a million autographs. It’s totally normal for Carrie Underwood to have her good days and bad days as well. No one is perfect. What fans typically don’t like is when a celebrity behaves like a diva. According to one fan who posted on a gossip blog, the person wasn’t a fan of Underwood’s behavior. One person wrote, “My friend works as a DJ at a country radio station. She recently told me the following story about her encounter with Carrie Underwood. Yeah, just real arrogant and like she couldn't be bothered talking to anyone." It’s definitely not the image that most of us have of the singer. She wouldn’t be the first singer to get irritated while signing autographs either, so we can’t really blame her.
She Thinks She’s A Disappointment to her Fans
When it comes to performing onstage, she uses a certain persona as an entertainer. It’s the same thing that Beyonce stated that she basically gets into character when she is performing. Carrie Underwood does the same thing and she tries to tell fans that the person onstage isn’t necessarily who she is in real life. She told Redbook magazine, “I love being onstage, but that's different. That's not Carrie. That's Carrie Underwood. The rest of my life I feel like I'm incredibly disappointing to people.” That’s certainly an interesting take on Underwood.
“Like if I run into someone at the grocery store, I really don't know what to say because I don't have a microphone in my hand or bling on. They expect me to be Carrie Underwood, but I'm just Carrie. I'm sorry!”
Maybe that’s why people think that she is cold-hearted in public because they aren’t getting the reaction that they want from her. She stated that when it came to her career and family, it’s all about balance. “If my husband were at the beginning of his career, I'm not sure we could handle it. Since he's kind of nearing the end and won't be traveling so much, we're like, 'We can figure it out for not that long.'" She continued: “You make it work. When I was pregnant, I thought, ‘How am I going to go on the road? How am I going to keep doing my job?’ I had to just give it to God and stop worrying about it. Sure enough, we figured it out.”
She’s Not The All-American Girl
There isn’t anything wrong with being a bad girl as long as you are going to own up to it. It’s obvious that her country music career has been a little edgier than most. The problem with Underwood is that it seems that she’s a different person in public than she is behind closed doors. But maybe that’s just the way it is in the music industry. It has been said that it isn’t just fans that get disgruntled by her at times. She has even acted like a snob when it comes to talking to other celebrities as well. She gave a really bad impression to Leighton Meester who was a presenter at the CMA awards in 2010. At the time, Meester would have been a young girl and she starred in the country music-themed movie Country Strong which was probably why they asked her to present.
Just before Meester was about to go out to present, Carrie told Meester, “Get out there and don’t [mess] up.”
Talk about a no pressure situation. When Carrie was asked about what she said to Meester, she stated, “She’ll get over it.” Alright then.
She’s A Neat Freak
Just another example of how this country music star isn’t as perfect as she claims to be. Or maybe this proves that she is perfect or at least her home is. We sometimes wonder what the homes of our favorite celebrities look like when they aren’t being photographed. Are there dust bunnies everywhere or are they polished like we see in the magazines? Are they messy and live like slobs like some regular folk that we know? When it comes to Underwood, it’s highly unlikely that you will randomly go to her house and find it in a mess. She’s a self-proclaimed neat freak, so she isn’t about to let an unsuspecting guest see her home in shambles. She confessed on social media that she could be quite the neat freak.
"I can't function during the day if I know my bed is not made. It will be all I think about throughout the day until it's actually made. My refrigerator is extremely organized. Everything is showing the labels and is arranged in perfect rows."
Labels showing and cans arranged in perfect rows. Sounds a little like the movie Sleeping With the Enemy if you ask us.
There Is A Whole Different Side to Her
She’s definitely not the good girl country music singer that everyone wants to believe that she is. She’s already proved that she can be tough when she wants to be. She likes to take her anger out on ex-boyfriends in her lyrics, but Taylor Swift perfected that art a long time ago. There is definitely another side to Underwood that we don’t always see. It’s a side that she likes to keep hidden as much as possible. During an interview with The Orange County Register, she admitted,
“I have a dark side. Yes, it is evil. I can be very moody.”
Evil indeed, especially if you listen and believe some of the fan encounters. When it comes to being in the public eye, you have to be really good at masking your emotions, but Underwood either doesn’t care or doesn’t know how to. It’s likely that she may still have to learn what she should and shouldn’t say in public. It seems like that moody side frightens off some of her fans. She might just need a pick-me-up. “Sometimes a girl's got to have some chocolate!” That should do the trick.
She Thinks There Are Too Many Expectations on Female Artists
There’s no doubt about it, living in the public eye can certainly bring about stressful times. Even if you are making tons of money or have a huge career, there are also a lot of sacrifices involved. Carrie Underwood has gotten frustrated with the industry at times and it has a lot to do with all the female expectations in the industry. It’s these expectations on female artists that has made her want to throw in the towel, though we doubt she ever will.
“It seems women are expected to be so much more than men, which means we have to work that much harder. We're the ones under the microscope. We're expected to sound perfect. We're expected to look perfect all the time. We're expected to be style-setters, whereas the boys roll onto the stage in their jeans, T-shirts, and baseball caps.”
Well, we really can’t argue with that one, it sounds like it’s right on the money. Male performers do roll on stage in very casual attire whereas female performers typically go all out with their appearance. The tides do seem to be shifting. “Everything's completely different, and it's been hard. Fortunately, I have a lot of wonderful people around me, and I think I'm handling things pretty well.”
She’s Aware That People Talk About Her
Haters are going to hate, right? Or so Taylor Swift will have us believe. There are a lot of celebrities out there that just try to tune out all the background noise. Listening to the haters can only stress one out further and its already huge pressure to go out there and perform all the time. There’s the pressure to please everyone when that’s virtually impossible. There’s only so much stress that one person can take. But when it comes to Carrie Underwood, she’s the opposite. She understands that people are probably talking about her and she wants to know what they are saying. It’s probably not the best thing to do for your mental health and celebrities like Selena Gomez have stated that reading things online can cause a person to become depressed. When it comes to Underwood’s reputation, she wants to make sure that she’s setting people straight.
“I've heard all kinds of crazy rumors about myself. I've even heard that I'm pregnant! I've become real good about laughing things off — I figure I'd better get used to it.”
That’s really all she can do because there is just no controlling how people view you at any given time.
She’s Got Plenty of Critics
Probably everyone in the industry will have critics attacking them at one point or another in their career. As we said before, you just can’t please everyone. Carrie Underwood is a huge star in country music and with that will come a ton of fans but just as many critics. She’s out there in the public eye and there’s just no stopping it from happening. She’s learned throughout her career that she’s going to have to accept that critics are sometimes going to say things that she doesn’t like. She’s certainly done with playing nice all the time and she just wants to live her life.
“I've learned that haters want to hate. You could sing a song perfectly, you could write the songs perfectly, and some people are absolutely going to hate you.”
That is, unfortunately, the harsh world that celebrities live in. She just tries to be the best role model that she can be. “I would say that my role model, as far as just somebody leading by example, which to me is what a great youth counsellor does — they are there to talk to and lead by example — would be my mom, but she wasn't a youth counsellor. She was a teacher, and she is a good person and definitely one of the biggest influences in my life.”
She Doesn’t always Give Fans What They Want
When she got into the accident at her home fans were shocked that she took so long to show her face again. Usually, we see something posted on social media of a celeb recovering, but we didn’t get any of that when it came to Carrie Underwood. It appeared as if she was being coy with fans when she would post pictures of her face wrapped up in scarves. She just wasn’t willing to show her face to her fans until she was good and ready. Many of her fans were upset that she took so long to show herself after the accident, especially for the fans who were concerned about her. Is it because she wanted to get the plastic surgery done first? Any photos that Underwood did post were always of her from far away and that wasn’t acceptable for her fans. Not everyone believed that Underwood should show off her face however. Gossip blog Celeb*tchy defended her actions by writing,
“This is absolutely her prerogative to let us see what she wants, when she wants, and that accident must have been traumatizing without the added layer of her public image.
Imagine being a famous person and then having a freak random accident which damages your face. Of course, they have the added buffer of cosmetic surgery and the best makeup artists, but it’s still got to be difficult.”
That Time She got Caught For Speeding
We would probably hard-pressed to find any of our friends who haven’t been caught speeding at one time or another in their lives, but celebrities are definitely held to another standard. It’s always interesting though when someone who is considered to be a good girl in the industry is caught in a run-in with the police. She was once pulled over by the police for speeding and she wasn’t happy about it at all. We have to assume it didn’t go very well for her. She was eventually let go by the police officer, but she took the ordeal to social media to complain about it. Many people at the time believed that it was just a publicity stunt or she was trying to get some attention. Bad publicity is still publicity, right? Radar Online reported, “The chief said Underwood was traveling southbound on Wilson Pike near the New Hope Church in the northeastern side of the city of Brentwood when an officer flashed his lights behind her at 10:21 a.m. Minutes after her embarrassing encounter with police, Underwood took to Twitter to speak of her shame.” Now that must have been embarrassing, but it’s even more embarrassing when you make a big deal about it.
She Can Be Very Political
There’s just something about discussing politics that can put everyone in a mood. We have discovered that there are many different political views especially when it comes to Hollywood. Many people in country music have strong views about what’s going on in our current political climate. The problem is that when it comes to Underwood, her views typically flip-flop all over the place. Fans hate it when celebrities use awards shows to speak about politics. It’s just not the time or the place and it doesn’t always go over very well. In 2016 Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley were supposed to keep their political opinions to themselves when they were on stage at the CMA awards. But they decided to ignore producers and it didn’t go over well. Country Living reported that Underwood, “joked about the policy controversy." She said,
"Now, Brad, I don't know if you've heard about this, but the CMA has given us some 'guidelines' with specific topics to avoid," she said. "So we can't be doing any silly little songs because this year's show is a politics-free zone.”
Great job on keeping things under wraps Carrie! We’re sure that the producers appreciated you keeping your opinion to yourself.
She Feels Guilty About Her Career
When it comes to celebrities having babies, it can be tough on them when they still want to work. It can’t always be easy to juggle a mega-successful career and have a family. We have seen more than one celebrity over the years crash and burn as they found the struggle too difficult. Underwood has stated that she also has found it hard to balance career and family. Which is why she feels guilty about having her country music career. There have been times where she has had to leave her son at home while she goes on the road. It’s just part of her career and she wouldn’t be the first singer who has had to make sacrifices for a career. But it’s definitely not an easy situation to be in. She told Redbook last year that it’s not always easy to ask for help.
"Accepting help is hard for me, but I’m learning. Sometimes I feel guilty that this is my son’s life: We live on a bus and we’re in a hotel room and sometimes we’re in the middle of nowhere and it’s not so great. It’s not all glamorous.
We have a nanny who helps out, especially when we’re on the road. But I’d feel guilty asking someone to watch him at home while I run to the grocery store.”
